Reinventing an Icon

Despite its legacy and loyal following, McDowell’s No. 1 Brandy was ready for a visual evolution. The goal: modernize the bottle and label while preserving the brand’s rich heritage. It was a balancing act - refresh the look without alienating its legacy audience, and appeal to a new generation of consumers without losing authenticity.

Boldhaus Brings the New Look to Life

Boldhaus brought the new design to life through a premium photo shoot that showcased every element of the refreshed bottle. The visuals were used across posters, danglers, shelf strips, and backdrops to ensure consistency at retail. The result was a striking new identity that felt both modern and timeless—boosting shelf impact and reconnecting with audiences old and new.

A Legacy Distilled Over Centuries

McDowell’s No.1 Brandy traces its legacy to 1826, beginning as a trading house near Fort St. George in Madras. Officially launched in 1963–64 after India’s IMFL industry took shape, it quickly became a household name. Over time, it evolved into a flagship brand under United Spirits, expanding into whisky and rum, and growing into one of the world’s largest spirits labels.
